How to get from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh

The easiest public option from Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh is the ETS train from KL Sentral: about 2 to 2.5 hours to Ipoh station, which is close to the old town, from about RM36 in Gold class. Express buses take about 3 to 4 hours and many end at Amanjaya terminal, about 16 km north of the centre. A private car covers about 207 km in around 2.5 hours, door to door from your KL hotel or KLIA, from RM680 for the whole car (Toyota Innova, up to 6 people).

Train tickets sell out
The ETS is popular, especially on Friday evenings, Sunday afternoons and public holidays. Book on the KTMB website or app a few days ahead. With a lot of luggage or small children, the walk and taxi at each end add time.
Amanjaya is not in town
If you take the bus, check where it ends. Amanjaya terminal is well outside the centre, so you will need a Grab or taxi to reach old-town hotels and cafés.
Ipoh and Cameron Highlands in one trip
Ipoh is about 2 hours from Cameron Highlands by road. Many visitors do KL → Cameron Highlands → Ipoh → KL. Ask us for a price on multi-stop trips.
Going back to KL or the airport
A return booking is two separate one-way trips. If you have a flight from KLIA, leave Ipoh at least 5 hours before departure.
